This compelling play tells the true story of four extraordinary women who worked painting watch dials with “glow in the dark” radium paint at the Radium Dial Company in Illinois, USA during the 1920s and 30s. The company pays and pays well, by the watch, encouraging them to be as efficient as possible while disregarding potential risks. Over the next decade, mysterious problems arise that threaten their health.
We are introduced to the courageous Catherine, Pearl, Charlotte and Frances and follow their journey as they fight for justice after discovering that their work has poisoned them. Bonded by years of friendship, our four determinded women decide to fight against the corporation that kept them in the dark about the true risks of working with a radioactive material.
These Shining Lives is not just a story of corporate negligence, but of resilience, friendship, and the strength of the human spirit, as the women band together to take on their employer in a landmark legal battle that changes American labour laws forever.
We will be holding auditions for this beautiful play in February 26 so watch this space!
