Educating Rita

Educating Rita web header

Mid-fifties university tutor Frank is a  brilliant academic and frustrated poet in a committed relationship with whiskey.

Rita is a mid-twenties, working class hairdresser, stuck in a less than committed marriage because she too is frustrated. She craves the expansion of her horizons.

Frank and Rita’s very different worlds collide when  Rita signs up to an Open University course. Frank is less than enthusiastic about taking on the very persistent Rita  but as their relationship develops  they both soon realise just how much they have to teach each other.

Willy Russell’s hilarious and heart-warming comedy won the Olivier Award when it was produced in London’s West End by the RSC. It was adapted into the multi award-winning film which starred Julie Walters and Michael Caine.

Sue Mooney will be Directing this delightful play for Woodford Players and you can book your tickets on the link below.

This amateur production of Educating Rita is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd on behalf of Samuel French Ltd www.concordtheatricals.co.uk

★★★★ ‘Heart-stopping. The play’s underlying questions feel more pertinent than ever.’ – Guardian
